I get the feeling that Indian people love to celebrate. Of course the big events in life, such as marriages and child birth. But they also have a million festivals (and holidays!), which give them a reason to dress up and dance. So here are some videos I have taken over the last months.
Unfortunally I did not have the opportunity to go to a marriage yet. Thanks to the Indian culture, marriages are celebrated really publicly.
Same crossing opposite to our house. Even smaller, the groom has to walk!!!
Party crossing! Now this one is a celebration for the birth of a child.
Talking about festivals. Some weeks ago students in NID celebrated Punjab "Lohri" festival. There was a really nice buffet in the hostel area, a bonfire, an amazing student's dance performance and sugar cane sticks! For me it was a funny experience, chewing this... kind-of-wood thing. They are surprisingly tasty and contain a whole lot of water! At lohri festival guys are supposed to go to the bonfire, "propose" to a girl by calling out her name loudly - in front of everyone - and breaking a sugar plant stick over his knee. People also throw puffed rice, popcorn and other things into the bonfire, then the fire god (what ever his name is) blesses the land. And people dance. A lot! It was so much fun!
Part of the student's performance. I only have this video, I wanted to enjoy the performance instead of staring on my camera screen.
The Shila-song. EVERYBODY was listening to it for months! On single repeat! You wake up in the morning and a kid is singing it in front of your window. You go to a restaurant and it is playing on tv. It was terrible... :D
